Dear Christian Star Gazers,
On Monday please just put the funny glasses on and watch the eclipse with everyone else. I know that famous preachers have set dates and made predictions about the eclipse and the calendar with the moon. I know some of the people who have spoke about these matters have written many books and they seem to have a great amount of credibility. But, the beauty of the Bible is you can weigh a person’s conclusions about it, with what it actually says.
Jesus actually said, “But concerning that day and hour no one knows, not even the angels of heaven, nor the Son, but the Father only. As were the days of Noah, so will the coming of the Son of Man. For as in those days before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day when Noah entered the ark, and they were unaware, until the flood came and swept them all away, so will be the coming of the Son of Man (Matthew 24:36-39)
So why bring it up? I bring it up because those of us who seek to find answers through the Bible take the Bible seriously. We strive to study theology and understand the original meaning of the text. We want to know things like, what did this mean to the original person writing it? What would it have meant to the original audience? Most of what is preached about the end of the world can be thrown out just with those two questions. When Revelation was written a real group of people wanted to know why Jesus was allowing them to suffer and pagans appeared to be receiving blessing. The message of the book let them know, it was about to get even worse for them, but at the end of all things they who are faithful will stand victorious with Him.
So please, just put the funny glasses on and enjoy the eclipse with everyone else. I don’t want people to think you and I arrive at our conclusions the same way.
